Hand Pump and Foot Pump

Hand Pump and Foot PumpHand pumps and foot pumps as the names suggest are those pumps that are manually operated pumps driven by hand or foot via a handle or lever.

How does Hand Pump and Foot Pump operates?
In the working of a hand pump or foot pump, the manual external force activates an internal mechanism, which increases pressure for moving fluids such as gas, chemicals or water. To begin the pump cycle, hand lever and foot pedals are pushed up or down. This often requires one stroke to draw the fluid and another stroke to discharge it, which is typical in many displacement pumps. Hand pumps can even be attached to a jack pump. A jack pump run by a gas or electric motor can do the "pumping" on the hand pump.

Designs of Hand Pump and Foot Pump
Hand pumps and foot pumps are generally of two designs:

  • Hydraulic design :Hydraulic hand pumps and foot pumps are used to manually pressurize a hydraulic system and for instrument calibration.

  • Pneumatic design : Pneumatic hand pumps and foot pumps are designed for testing and instrument calibration.

A fluid tank is generally supplied with hydraulic and pneumatic hand pumps as an integral part of the pump or an independent part. It holds a quantity of fluid for the pump to use to power pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders.

Types of Hand pump and Foot pump:

  • Drum Pump
  • Reciprocating or Rotary Pump
  • Diaphragm Pump
  • Calibration Hand Pump

Uses of Hand Pump and Foot Pump:
The hand pumps and foot pumps provide a practical solution providing much needed clean water for you. These are strong pumps that are capable of providing many years of heavy service with minimal maintenance. These pumps are able to pump water from wells requiring the lifting of water as high as 350 feet. These pumps are generally portable and lighter in weight. These are field operable where electric drives may not be available. A gage is often attached to hand pumps to measure pressure.
