Boiler Feedwater Pump 
There are several other items required to provide for a complete steam generation system, in addition to the boiler. Boiler feedwater pump is an important part of any boiler operation. It is used to move boiler feed water, condensate returns, deaerated water as well as chemicals used to protect boilers and boiler systems. It controls the amount of water fed to the boiler and the manner in which it is fed.
Features of Boiler Feedwater Pump:
- The boiler feedwater pump operation can be continuous or intermittent.
- Continuous Feedwater Pump : Boilers with capacities exceeding 10,000 pounds/hour typically employs a modulating feed water regulator and will continuously feed water to the boiler at various rates depending upon the water level in the boiler.
- Intermittent Feedwater Pump : Boilers with a capacity of 10,000 pounds/hour or less utilize a float type switch that starts and stops the boiler feed pump to satisfy a predetermined water level within the boiler. This is an intermittent operation.
- Continuous Feedwater Pump : Boilers with capacities exceeding 10,000 pounds/hour typically employs a modulating feed water regulator and will continuously feed water to the boiler at various rates depending upon the water level in the boiler.
- Boiler Feedwater pumps range in sizes up to many horsepower and the electric motor is usually separated from the pump body by some form of mechanical coupling.
- Boiler feedwater pump is used in many industrial applications. Condensate pumps can serve as the feedwater pump in industries. In either case, to force the water into the boiler, the pump must generate sufficient pressure to overcome the steam pressure developed by the boiler.
- This pump is used in steam locomotives and the steam engines used on ships.
- These pumps are also used in stationary applications such as power plants.
